Deadline looms for £50m capital investment opportunities

Academies and local authorities have until April 23 to lodge applications for the next round of £50m of capital funding from the Selective Schools Expansion Fund (SSEF).

The purpose of the SSEF is to support the physical expansion of selective schools where: there is a need for additional places, both in terms of a shortfall of secondary places in the local area and a demand from parents for more selective places; they have ambitious but deliverable plans for increasing access for disadvantaged pupils; and they have plans to work with other local schools to increase access for disadvantaged pupils and to raise attainment.

Sixteen schools were successful in the first round of the SSEF (see table).

The SSEF is only available to fund proposals for an enlargement of the physical capacity of a school’s buildings, which increases the school’s published admission numbers.

The deadline for receipt of the SSEF applications is noon on Tuesday 23 April 2019.
