Capital investment in schools
AS THE Government begins to re-build the nation’s medium term growth prospects, it has acknowledged the pressing need for additional investment in education. In the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement, it has committed a further £1.2 billion* capital investment in schools in England, commencing in 2012.

The market
NEW PRIORITIES govern the direction of the schools capital spend for 2012. The new school rebuilding programme is aimed at those schools in the worst condition. In creating a new model for allocating and prioritising capital, the Secretary of State wants to see a more centralised approach to “capture efficiencies and build expertise”. This will see a distinct trend towards standardised drawings and specifications for future buildings.
